The Secret of the Quiet Heart

Tip! In order to accomplish His high purpose, Jesus showed us His purpose in answering our prayers when He said, “...That the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

"Be still, and know that I am God." -- Psalms 46:10

"Sit still, my daughter, for the man will not rest, until he has finished the thing this day." -- Ruth 3:18

We can see that paradise has vanished from our world, the same way as the picture of a landscape vanishes when it is swept by a storm. And our human race stands in much the same dilemma as did Naomi and Ruth in this old-world story. We are in the same trouble because we have lost our inheritance and the only barrier that stands between us and hopelessness is the Person and Work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But, thanks be to God, we need have no doubt as to the outcome of our predicament. For just as Boaz claimed back the estate for Ruth, so may we be secure in the fact that Jesus Christ will never be at rest till this sin-stained and sidetracked world we live in is restored to her ancient order and beauty, as before the fall when all creation sang for joy.

Jesus is our near Kinsman by His certainty of our nature. He is the nearest and dearest Friend of our race, who came from heaven to die for our redemption some 2000 years ago. And the fact that He carried our nature in Himself to heaven, and wears it there, is an indissoluble bond between us. Sit still! Do not fret! He will never fail you, as He will certainly never forsake you!

Let us seek a quiet heart in our prayers. Prayer must happen within us as a fountain comes from unknown depths. But we must leave it to God to answer our prayers in His own wisest way. Do not take it back or help Him answer your prayer. We are so impatient, and think that God does not answer.

Tip! The person who prays, has a belief that they will receive an answer. The prayer is intended to inculcate certain attitudes in the one who prays, rather than to influence the recipient.

A child asked God for good weather on her birthday, but it rained! Some one said, "God didn't answer your prayer." "Oh yes," she replied, "He did, God always answers, but He said No!" God always answers! He never fails! Be still! If we abide in Him, and He abides in us, we ask what we will, and it is done. As a sound may displace an avalanche, so the prayer of faith sets in motion the power of God.

Tip! “Intercession” is amplification in prayer; it is going out in broadness and fullness from ones self for others. Primarily, it does not center in praying for others, but refers to the freeness, boldness and childlike confidence in praying.

In times of difficulty--be still! Your enemies are plotting your overthrow! They laugh at your strong confidence! But have you not heard His voice saying: "This is the way, walk ye in it"? Then let Him deal with your foes from where ever they come. He is your Rock, and rocks do not shake. He is your High Tower, and a high tower cannot be flooded.

If you need mercy, then go to Him because He owns mercy. Do not run here and there in panic! Just quietly wait, hushing your soul, the same way as He did the fears of His friends on the night of Gethsemane and Calvary. "Rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him." "Be still, for He will not rest, until He hath finished the thing this day."

Prayer:

If I should get lost in the middle of the perplexities of life and in the rush of all my duties this day, Father please search me out, oh gracious Lord, and bring me back into the quiet of Your presence; In Jesus' name. AMEN.

The Intimate Friendship of Jesus

Tip! He didn't say we would see the manifestation of our prayers immediately. We need to give God time to work things out, continue in our faith, and not doubt, 'For a man who wavers is like a wave of the sea, driven with the wind and tossed.

WHEN is it that Jesus is near to us; is it only when all is well and nothing seems difficult? What about when He seems absent, is that when all is hard and difficult? When Jesus does not seem to speak to our hearts, all the other comforts is empty, but if He says only a word, it brings great relief in us.

Isaiah 15:6 "For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing".

Was it not Mary Magdalen who got up at once from her weeping when Martha said to her: "The Master is come, and calls for you"? Happy is the hour when Jesus calls a person from tears to the fullness of His joy in spirit.

John 15:14 "You are my friends if you do what I command you. "

How dry and hard we are without Jesus! How foolish and vain if we desire anything but Him! Is it not a greater loss than losing the whole world? Without Jesus, what can the world give us? Life without Him is a relentless hell, but living with Him is a sweet paradise. If Jesus be with you, no enemy can harm you.

He who finds Jesus finds a rare treasure, indeed, a good above every good, whereas he who loses Him loses more than the whole world. The man who lives without Jesus is the poorest of the poor, whereas no one is so rich as the man who lives in His grace.

It is a great art to know how to converse with Jesus, and great wisdom to know how to keep Him. Be humble and peaceful, and Jesus will be with you. Be devout and calm and He will remain with you. You may quickly drive Him away and lose His grace, if you turn back to the outside world. And, if you drive Him away and lose Him, to whom will you go and whom will you then seek as a friend?

You cannot live well without a friend, and if Jesus be not your friend above all else, you will be very sad and desolate. Thus, you are acting foolishly if you trust or rejoice in any other.

Choose the opposition of the whole world rather than offend Jesus. Of all those who are dear to you, let Him be your special love. Let all things be loved for the sake of Jesus, but Jesus for His own sake. Jesus Christ must be loved alone with a special love for He alone, of all friends, is good and faithful. For Him and in Him you must love friends and foes alike, and pray to Him that all may know and love Him.

Tip! So it is the same elsewhere in the Holy Bible (James 1:5) we have “asking” put into view as a prayer: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraiding [scolding somebody] not, and it shall be given him.

Never desire special praise or love, for that belongs to God alone who has no equal. Never wish that anyone's affection be centered in you, nor let yourself be taken up with the love of anyone, but let Jesus be in you and in every good person. Be pure and free within, un-entangled with any creature.

You must bring to God a clean and open heart if you wish to attend and see how sweet the Lord is. Truly you will never attain this happiness unless His grace prepares you and draws you on so that you may forsake all things to be united with Him alone.

When the grace of God comes to a person they can do all things, but when it leaves him they become poor and weak, abandoned, as it were, to hardship. Yet, in this condition they should not become dejected or despair. On the contrary, they should calmly await the will of God and bear whatever befalls them in praise of Jesus Christ, for after winter comes summer, after night, the day, and after the storm, a great calm.

How Do You Know When it it Time to Pray?

Have you, ever had anyone come to you and say,
"Tell me...how do you know when it is time to pray?"

I mean our stomachs growl when it is time to eat.
Our eyes start closing when it is time to sleep.
When our feelings get hurt, it is time for tears,
With a new birth it is time to care.

People will often tell us, quite so,
When it is time to come, or stay, or go.

But how do you know when it is time to pray?

Does an alarm go off next to your bed?
Or is there a clanging inside your head?
Do your eyes start blinking, a horn start blowing?
Or do you listen for a rooster crowing?
Just what is your way of knowing when it is time to pray?

With me...

I find it is time to pray
At the beginning and ending of each day.
And when I am sick and feeling bad,
Or scared, or lonely, or lost, or sad.

When the bills blow in like sand
I seek a touch of the Master's hand.

When I need patience, hope and peace
And an abiding love that will not cease.

When I am thankful for all there is
That now is mine, and yet is His.

Gladness, sadness, joy and grief
We share in prayer. And it is my belief
That whenever my heart has something to say
That is how I know when it's time to pray.

What is Profit?

Tip! An effective prayer life can have a huge impact on not only our own individual life, but on the lives of those around us. Through prayer we can have an impact on our local community, our country and the world.

Oh well for him who all things braves,

A soldier of the Lord to be,

Whom vice counts not among her slaves,

From envy, pride, and passion free;

Who wars against the world of sin

Without him, and self-will within.

Who follows Christ what'er betide,

Is worthy of a soldier's name;

Is He thy Way, thy Light, thy Guide,

'Tis meet thou also bear His shame;

Who shrinks from dark Gethsemane,

Shall Tabor's glories never see.

What profits it that Christ hath deigned

To wear our mortal nature thus,

That God reveal Himself in us?

Darrell Scott - Rachel Scott’s Father, a Victim of Columbine High School Shootings Speaks on Prayer

Tip! Travailing – This is an intense emotional prayer – where we are praying with all our might for someone else. Bringing them and their needs before the Lord.

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript

Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

Tip! THE possibilities of prayer are gauged by faith in God's ability to do. Faith is the one prime condition by which God works.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:

Tip! It opens the door for salvations. (Act 2:42) “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers”.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,

Your words are empty air.

You've stripped away our heritage

You've outlawed simple prayer.

Now gunshots fill our classrooms,

And precious children die.

You seek for answers everywhere

And ask the question "Why?"

You regulate restrictive laws,

Through legislative creed.

And yet you fail to understand,

That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

Tip! My fervent prayer is that others will not lose faith in God. I pray they will turn to Him if they have not come to know Him.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

How Mighty Are Your Prayers?

Exodus 17:12 - 13 “But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.”

Both praying and fighting the enemy were needed in life’s situation today. So powerful was the prayer of Moses that everything depended on it. The prayers of Moses caused the enemy to be unsuccessful more than the warfare of Joshua. What I am trying to say is, in the conflict of our souls, power and passion, choice and dedication, courage and forcefulness, must join their forces, then everything will be well.

We have to wrestle with your sin, but the major part of the wrestling must be done alone in private prayer with God. Prayer, like Moses’, holds up the sign of the covenant before the Lord. The rod was the emblem of God’s working with Moses, the symbol of God’s government in Israel.

Please learn, earnest praying saint of God, to hold up the promise and the oath of God before Him. The Lord cannot contradict His own Word. Hold up the rod of promise from His Word the Holy Bible, and have what you will.

Moses grew tired holding up his arms; as long as he held them up Joshua was successful against the enemy. When Moses’ arms got heavy and started to come down the enemy became successful in the fight. Moses’ friends saw he needed support and assisted him in holding up his arms.

When at any time your prayer become hard or heavy, let faith support one hand, and let holy hope give a lift to the other, and prayer seating yourself on the stone of Israel, the rock of our salvation, will persevere and prevail.

Beware of weakness in devotion; if Moses felt it, who of us can escape this? It is far easier to fight with sin in public, than to pray against it in private.

It is remarked that Joshua never grew weary in the warfare, but Moses did grow tired in the praying; the more spiritual an exercise, the more difficult it is for flesh and blood to maintain it.

Let us cry out to God, then, for special strength, and may the Spirit of God, who helps our weakness’, as He allowed help to Moses, enable us like him to continue with our hands steady “until the going down of the sun;” till the evening of life is over; till we shall come to the rising of a better sun in the land where prayer is swallowed up in praise.

The possibilities of prayer are gauged by faith in God’s ability to do. Faith is the one prime condition by which God works. Faith is the one prime condition by which a person prays. Faith draws on God to its full extent. Faith gives character to prayer. A feeble faith has always brought forth feeble praying. Vigorous faith creates vigorous praying. Christ asks this pointed question, “When the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?”

But how do I know that I am praying in the will of God? Every true attempt to pray is in response to the will of God. Even as clumsy as it may be and untaught by human teachers, but it is accept-able to God, because it is in obedience to His will. If I will give myself up to the inspiration of the Spirit of God, who commands me to pray, the details and the petitions of that praying will all fall into harmony with the will of Him who wills that I should pray.

Prayer is no little thing, no selfish and small matter. It does not concern the selfish insignificant interests of one person. The littlest prayer expands out by the will of God till it touches all words, preserves all interests, and develops man’s greatest wealth, and God’s greatest good. God is so concerned that people pray that He has promised to answer prayer. He has not promised to do something general if we pray, but He has promised to do the very thing for which we pray.

But He did not Answer Her – Not a Single Word was Said – Until

Tip! What really determines’ the effectiveness of our labor for Christ is the measure of our faith and the fervency of our prayers. If our faith is poor and our praying is indifferent; how can we expect to achieve much for Him?

"But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and begged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before Him, saying, "Lord, help me." And He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly. "

Matthew 15:23-28 RSV

All of you who are genuine seekers; you know who you are. As of yet you have not obtained the blessing that you are looking for, have you. You should take comfort from this story that is before us. Our Saviour did not give the blessing at once to this woman, even though she had great faith in Jesus. He intended to give her the request, but He waited awhile. What was He waiting for? Why is Jesus waiting to grant your request today?

"But He did not answer her a word." Was it because her prayers were not any good? No. They were never better in the world. Was her case not that needy? No. She was very sorrowfully and needy. Did she not feel her need sufficiently? She felt it overwhelmingly. Was she not earnest enough? She was intensely so. Then it must have been that she had no faith? Wrong! She had such a high degree of faith; in fact she had so much that even Jesus marveled, and said, "O woman, great is your faith." So then what is the problem?

Here are some possibilities, although it is true that faith brings peace, however it does not always bring it instantaneously. There might be certain reasons in your life that are calling for the trial of faith, rather than the reward of faith. Remember Jesus is the "author and finisher of our faith", so He knows precisely what we need. Genuine faith may be in the soul like a hidden seed, but as of yet it may not have budded or blossomed into joy and peace that we so desperately want.

Tip! The Master will not expect more from anyone than a person is capable of doing for Him. Jesus wants us to understand that each person will be rewarded according to their faithfulness in doing their given task.

A painful silence from our Saviour is a serious trial for many of us that are truly seeking Him with all their hearts. But still even heavier is the difficulty of a harsh cutting reply such as this, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."

Many people while waiting on the Lord find instant delight, but this is not the case with all of us. Remember the jailer? He was in a moment turned from darkness to light, but others of us are like plants that have a slower growth period. A deeper sense of sin may be given to you instead of a sense of pardon. And in such a case you will have to have patience to bear this heavy blow.

Ah, but poor heart, even though Christ may beat and bruises you, or even allows you to die, trust Him completely! Even though He must give you an angry word, trust in the love of His heart. Do not please, I beg you, give up! Keep seeking! Keep trusting our Master! Because just as this woman received her request so you will obtain the conscious joy that you long so much for soon. Throw yourself on Him, and perseveringly depend on Him even where you can not yet rejoice in the hope you seek.

Tip! Praise and thanksgiving – This is the earnest, heartfelt prayer where we come before the Lord thanking and praising him for his mighty power and love. We may praise him in both our earthly and spiritual language.

Do not Fail to Get the Spiritual Fitness Provided for Us in His Finished Work

Tip! Let's move on to Mark 11:25. There's a condition for asking God for something in prayer.

"I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." -- John 17: 4

The cruel ridicule of the masses, the mocking insults of the scribes, and the criticism of the violent crowd could not turn Jesus away from His set intention of finishing His work according to the will of His Father. The stripes, spittle, blood, and bruises could not crush Him. The abuse and humiliation that was pile up on Jesus could not overpower His passionate love for us, His disqualified saints. Jesus Christ, was numbered with the transgressors, He was crucified on a lonely hill called Calvary. He suffered, the Just for us the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

He was detested by antagonist, ridiculed by fanatics, and abandoned by friends, but He was victorious over sin and death. Now Jesus has returned to heaven with our Father, the Most High God, and sets at the right hand of our Father, there Jesus lives to make intercession for His saints.

"Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am..." -- John 17:24

Tip! First, you have to pray. Thinking about something does not make it a prayer.

What if Christ's prayer went unanswered? What would have become of us if our Father did not hear this prayer of intercession? We as living people of God would cry out in unthinkable grief and regret the day we ever heard about the hope of the Gospel. It would be completely impossible to see the devastating hopelessness and terrible distress that would sweep over our souls as the redeemed children of God. The hopelessness of the black raven of depression would cover the sad songs of eternal death on the tombs of the godly.

Jesus' last will and testament has been signed by His nail-scarred hand and sealed by the Holy Spirit. We have nothing to fear or doubt concerning the last victory of Christ's intercessory prayer. Every word spoken in His everlasting intercession will be answered in full by our Father. He has offered His petition as an inheritance to be shared by us, His believing and faithful people.

The voice of Jesus' supplication has been heard in the third heaven. The words of His weeping have been translated in front of the mercy seat of pure gold. At the throne of God our Father, His tears will triumph and His petition will be granted.

Can you believe that our Lord can find pleasure in holy fellowship with His ransomed people to all eternity? It is almost unbelievable. But look again at His prayer, it shows us that it is Jesus' will to live with us, His people in the holy union of love all through all ages, forever and ever. Wow!

I believe that the greatest pleasure we will enjoy in heaven will be the awesome pleasure of being with our Savior, Jesus Christ, for evermore. Only His glory and His presence will make the City of God happy.

Tip! Samson's prayer at the end of his life affected not only his future, but the future of others as well. At the time of his death, his people were in danger, his enemies were present to mock him, but his people were out of harm's way.

Could we have satisfaction in seeing the magnificence of our Father's house of many mansions if Christ was not there to fill it with the light of His appearance? The intensity of His glory and splendor of His Person will complete our happiness; because without Jesus' shed blood we could not be redeemed.

The river of life, the fruitful trees, and the anthems of angels would increase the enjoyment of our surroundings, but these would fail to satisfy us. The only satisfactions for us as the redeemed will be for the glorified Son of God to be present to receive our eternal praise and gratitude.

So let us persist in prayer that our Lord will count us worthy to be given this inheritance of His intercessory prayer that He offered to our Father. Do not fail to get the spiritual fitness provided for us in His finished work. We must always be aware of the fact that without holiness no one will see our Lord.

Tip! Properly understood, prayer is a natural activity dispensable for the fullest development of personality. Only in prayer do we achieve that complete, harmonious, assembly of Body, Mind and Spirit which gives the frail humans its unshakeable strength.

Once again take comfort in our Savior's immortal prayer,

"Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world" -- John 17:24

Jesus has Paid for and Finished His Work for Your Salvation

Tip! In (Phil. 4:6) we have these words about prayer: “Be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me [Jesus]. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." -- John 14:1, 2

Perhaps we are likely to think of the everlasting enjoyment and indescribable happiness we will achieve in this place Jesus is setting up for us, His children. We try our best to imagine the splendor of this City who's Builder and Maker is God.

We are prone to speculate regarding the skillfulness of our Infinite Artist who has combined the seven prismatic colors of white light to increase the magnificent glory of heaven, our holy home for the ones redeemed by His blood.

While thinking about the wonderful hope of heaven, do not fail to notice the fact that our hope is founded on the completed work of Christ. Remember what Jesus said to our Father,

"I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." -- John 17: 4

His prayer is like someone returning back home after having done the appointed assignment. He makes no mention of the price He had to pay with His blood and tears to be able to prepare this place where we can be with Him to all eternity.

His unequivocal agony on that middle cross granted for us the required qualification of moral character needed to shape eternal heaven with Him in our Father's house. His intercessory prayer promise's us that we can be sanctified through the truth in His Word. It is His will to wash us by His blood and present us holy and un-blamable and un-reproved in His sight. Colossians 1:22.

His finished work and last will are in no doubt the basis on which we rest our hope on. That one day soon we who believe will be with Him where He is, and will see His glory. We have every reason to believe that we can gain these sacred benefits of His finished work, and when we arrive at the end of our life's journey we will receive a magnificent welcome into the City of God.

Tip! Please complete the work you have started in me. Please bless those that hate me, and give me the courage to walk in your commands and give me the words to say in my prayers.

But only if we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He paid the price with His blood for us, the price we could not pay, for the sins we did.

Jesus took great joy in bring about His Father's purpose in salvation. He took great pleasure in granting us access to a place in our Father's house as His believing people. His joy in bringing many people unto glory made it possible for Him to endure and triumph over His bodily torments and the anguish of His heart and soul.

Do you have one of those mansions waiting for you? It is a free gift. All you have to do is accept it. Jesus has finished His work for your salvation. You only must believe that He paid the price for your sins and ask Jesus to forgive you. Ask Him to come into you life and be you Savior. Jesus is waiting for you, because without Him we are all lost and will die and go to hell. It is Jesus' will that no one should die and go to hell. He wants you to be with Him in heaven in our Father's house. He has a mansion waiting for you! Do you believe that?

Tip! In order really to mould personally, prayer must become a habit. One can pray everywhere, in the street, the office, the school, in the solitude of one's own room.

Please, do not go to hell!

Christ Pleads His Will in Intercessory Prayer for Us

Tip! True prayer is a way of life, the truest life is literally a way of prayer.

"Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am..." -- John 17:24

John preserved this intercessory prayer for us when he wrote down Jesus' precious prayer. Our Lord allowed His disciples the enjoyment of knowing what His intercession for them in heaven as their High Priest was really like.

Of course the disciples had heard our Saviour pray for them frequently, but they had never heard Him pray like He did at this precise time and place. They must have been extremely awed by the ease of His approach to our heavenly Father.

They heard Him pray with the absolute assurance of the Beloved Son, Who is One and the same and eternal with our Father. The disciples must have acknowledged that Christ breathed into His intercessory prayer the effectiveness and authority of His everlasting life.

Jesus unlocked the precious inheritance of His prayer to our Father by saying, "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou gave me: for thou loved me before the foundation of the world." These gracious words of Jesus clearly show us what His final will is regarding the sacred domain for us as the redeemed. His absolute right to plead His will in prayer before our Father is founded on His completed work in this world. This is what He said,

Tip! “Supplication” is the very soul of prayer in the way of pleading for some one thing, very much needed, and the need intensely felt.

"I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." -- John 17: 4

Jesus' finished work and His last will are one in the Divine plan for the salvation of all people. He made it obvious that His intercessory prayer is an essential part of His redemptive work on the cross. It has pleased our Savior to show us this final conclusion of all He has willed and intended for us as His purchased people. The enjoyable hope of being with Him where He is will be fulfilled to the glory of our Father and to the eternal approval and wonderful admiration of His loving saints.

Tip! If you make a habit of sincere prayer, your life will be very noticeably and profoundly enriched.

The disciples could not understand our Savior's stated reason for going away. In their minds they were deeply confused; their hearts were greatly troubled by this alarming fact that He was to suffer and die. Was Jesus leaving them alone to serve and suffer in a world hostile toward all that they believed and preached about? I don't know, but could it be that they had almost reached the point of accepting final defeat? Because this is when Jesus re-energized their undecided nerves, saying,

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." -- John 14:1, 2

Wow! Let us highlight His wonderful words, "...A place for you." Our Lord was revealing the purpose of His departure. He removed the curtain that has been between time and eternity to validate the faith of His anxious people. Jesus wants us as His people to rest in our faith in Him by these comforting words He spoke to us, "In my Father's house are many mansions..."

Tip! The work of George Muller in Bristol, England, was a miracle of the nineteenth century. It will take the opening of the books at the great judgment day to reveal all he produced through prayer.

Praise God; there will be no homeless children in the family of God. All of us that believe in Jesus will have your home in stately mansions throughout all eternity. This inhospitable world has no lasting home for us as God's children. Yes, we were born in this world, and may even be buried in this world, but thanks be to God our Father; this passing world is not our home. We have no long-lasting city here on the earth. God's people are citizens of the celestial City, the heavenly Jerusalem, the city that John saw coming down from heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Tip! “Asking of God” and “receiving” from the Lord - direct request to God, immediate connection with God - that is true prayer.

Are you headed to that home in heaven? You can!

All you have to do is admit that you are a sinner. Believe that Jesus died in your place and rose again on the third day, and ask Him to forgive you and to come into your life as Lord and Savior. Then according to the Holy Bible, if your mean this with all your heart, you are Saved and are now a child of our Most High God.

Did I Really Mean what I had Asked for Or was I Just Trying to Impress God with Words: Part 2

Tip! THE possibilities of prayer are gauged by faith in God's ability to do. Faith is the one prime condition by which God works.

If you have not read the first part of this blog entry this one will not make much since. So please go down to the next entry named "Did I Really Mean what I had Asked for Or was I Just Trying to Impress God with Words: Part 1" and read it first.

It was two days letter and Mr. North called me and left a message for me to please come and visit him. I was in the middle of a major project at work; I was responsible for many things going on at church, not to even think of the demands of my family and home. And now Mr. North wanted to see me?

Before I called Mr. North to tell him I could not see him until sometime later; the Holy Spirit asked me one question. Did you really mean what you asked for or was it just to impress God with your words?

I called Mr. North and asked him what time would be good for me to come and see him. He said that 2:00 P.M. this Saturday would be great. I told him that would be fine; and I really meet it as well. Do you know that Satan and my-self (flesh) attack my spirit with everything we could think of? I was overwhelmed with things to do, many places to go and people to see.

I had to stop and pray. I asked God our Father to help me do His will in the Name of Jesus Christ with the strength and power of the Holy Spirit in me; to prepare me for this visit and to get me there safely.

I arrived at the set time and Mr. North was happy to see me again. But after an hour or so of getting to know each other, I was ready to go home. Nothing had come up about any problems, so I figured he was just lonely and wanted some company. I asked if I could pray with him before I left, this is when he told me his problem.

Tip! A person’s character is always demonstrated in their behavior. The Savior again said,“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good ...” -- Luke 6:45

He said he was hearing evil voices in his head all the time. These voices were saying that God did not care about him anymore because he was a worthless old man. They said things like, how could he expect to go to heaven when he had lived such a sinful life.

As the Holy Spirit prompted me, I opened the Holy Bible where Paul wrote

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." -- Philippians 4:8

Tip! •Approach God in prayer and ask for a fit body. • Get clear and visualize your fit body and believe.

Then I asked Mr. North two questions, the first was, when were you saved? This brought a big smile on his face. He picked up his Bible and showed me where he had written it down, and all the things that had led up to his Salvation in Jesus.

The second question was; when were you married? Another big smile filled his face, and again he had written the events of his marriage down on another page in his loved Holy Scriptures. He also stated he was looking forward to seeing her in heaven one of these days.

I saw what the Holy Spirit wanted Mr. North to see that day, and I was so blessed to be the messenger. I asked Mr. North to look at himself in the mirror and see how happy he was. When he looked and saw what I was seeing the Scripture "…think on these things" made sense to him and he understood what the Holy Spirit was telling him through His Word.

Tip! The person who prays, has a belief that they will receive an answer. The prayer is intended to inculcate certain attitudes in the one who prays, rather than to influence the recipient.

You know, Mr. North and I became good friends. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Day meal with him at the nursing home. He was a joy to be around, even with his physical problems and age. God used this man to show me His love for everyone on earth. Not just the young, good, strong or beautiful;

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." -- John 3:16

Mr. North is with Jesus now, and yes his wife as well. One day soon I will see Jesus as well as Mr. North, and we will be able to rejoice and praise our Father together again, but this time we will be in heaven.

Did I Really Mean what I had Asked for Or was I Just Trying to Impress God with Words: Part 1

Tip! So when we ask Christ to carry out His works in our hearts we are fervently praying that our Father may be glorified in His Son.

While praying during the quiet hours of the morning in my bedroom room a few years ago, I was burdened to pray that I would be available for God to use me anyway He saw fit to use me. The church I was attending set one evening a week to go out and visit the people who were sick or could not get out because of physical problems, most were older people. This was also a time we visited people who had not been to church for awhile and new members; this was the group I was comfortable visiting. However, this night the pastor assigned my team to visit an 84 year old man in a nursing home.

I was about to sound my protest when the Holy Spirit reminded me of my prayer earlier that day. Did I really mean what I had asked for or was I just trying to impress God with words. On my way to the car I asked the Holy Spirit to show me what Scripture from God's Word to read to this man, because I did not know this man at all.

I had met him several years earlier, I knew he had played the piano beautifully for many years at the church and I knew he loved our Lord. I also could see he was crippled by polio and had been told that was why he had to stop playing the piano at church. His mind was like a child's mind now as well.

I was unhappy about the choice that God had made for me. Of all the people to visit tonight why would you send me to this one? Why are You taking me out of my comfort zone? Why?

The Holy Spirit in His loving and fatherly way led my team to this saint of God's bed side for a time of worship and praise. The two other people on my team know Mr. North quite well and he was very happy to see them. After the small talk I asked him if I could read from God's Word and pray with him before we left. He consented, so I went to the passage the Holy Spirit had put in my heart.

Tip! 1 Timothy 2:1. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile." -- Jeremiah 29:11-14 RSV

Mr. North, with tears running down his cheeks, said that I had read his favorite passage from the Holy Bible. He then asked me a question; how did I know? This time with tears in my eyes all I could say was the Holy Spirit led me to it.

We prayed and thanked God for answering our prayers and gave Him all the glory and honor and praise, because if the Holy Spirit had left us alone, we would have never experienced His presents in that room.

The Holy Spirit was not finished using me yet that night. I could feel in my heart that Mr. North wanted to talk to me alone another time. So I gave him my phone number and made sure he would call me if he needed me.

Lord willing I will tell you the second part in tomorrow's blog entry. God loves you and wants to hear you, so pray to Him. He has something for you.

Will God Override the Individual Will of People Just to Answer Our Prayers?

Tip! So when we ask Christ to carry out His works in our hearts we are fervently praying that our Father may be glorified in His Son.

"...Golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of saints." -- Revelation 5:8.

Jesus Christ is the single and only mediator that is between God and humankind. All our prayers must be presented to Him and in His Name only. I am totally certain that every prayer that is offered in accordance to the will of God will be answered either in our natural life here on earth, or after we have entered our home with Christ in heaven. On the other hand, I have looked in God's Word, the Holy Bible, thoroughly, and cannot find anything to warrant anyone in believing that the translated or died saints can pray for us, the people living now on the earth. Praying to the translated people of God, and requesting them to pray for us, is a modified form of idolatry. So do not do this type of praying! Only pray in the Name of Jesus to our God the Father with the help of the Holy Spirit, the Three in One.

When I state that every prayer presented in the Name of Jesus will be answered, I am not saying that God will override the individual will of people just to answer our prayers. No! God cannot and will not save any person against his own will; however He will convict a person by the Holy Spirit of his sinning in opposition to His will.

Perhaps two examples will help you understand what I mean when I talk of an immortal prayer. The first example is about a man who came to the altar one night during a camp meeting, weeping in deep conviction of sin. After a period of earnest prayer, he was converted and gave this amazing testimony. His father had been a faithful preacher for many years and had repeatedly prayed throughout those years for him, his unsaved son. His father did not live to see his son saved, however at this particular camp meeting and on this exact night, the loving Lord Jesus answered the father's prayers and saved his wrecked son. This all happened years after the faithful servant of God had died and gone to heaven. Amazing love!

Tip! If we, God’s people expect to carry out the works of Christ that will glorify our Father, then we must believe in Him for the very work’s sake, and pray fervently in His Name.

The second example is about Moses, the man who led the children of Israel to the Promised Land. If you remember the story, Moses had been in the wilderness for 40 years and had witnessed the mighty hand of God through out that whole journey from Egypt. His prayer was to get all the children of Israel, including himself into the Promised Land safely. But Moses got mad at the people of Israel and hurt his testimony before God by his words and actions. God therefore would not allow Moses to enter the Promised Land. God did however allow Moses to see it from a mountain top, and then he went to be with the Lord.

Several hundred years later at a different mountain in the Promised Land, when Jesus and three of His chosen disciples were on the high mountain of Transfiguration; who was seen with Jesus? There were two other men with Jesus and one of them was Moses, in the Promised Land. Answered prayer is never on our time frame or in or way of things; but the One how owns eternity and time will answer your prayers according to His will and way.

It helps me to picture our Savior calling to His faithful servant in heaven and saying, "My child, I have many of your prayers in golden vials. They are the same as sweet aroma poured out in front of Me. I have your prayers that you presented on behalf of your sinful son during your natural life on earth. It is time now to answer your prayers during this camp meeting where you faithfully preached My Gospel several years ago. Now My child, I have just approved for your son a pardon in answer to your prayers and prayers of My people." Does it not cheer your heart to believe that God will answer every prayer that is prayed to Him in His will? It encourages mine to know these truths about immortal prayer.

Every Prayer Authorized by the Holy Spirit Becomes an Essential and Everlasting Part of Salvation

Tip! A person’s character is always demonstrated in their behavior. The Savior again said,“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good ...” -- Luke 6:45

"...Golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of saints." -- Revelation 5:8.

Jesus Christ regularly chooses some extraordinary place on earth to illustrate or show Himself to humankind. It is noticeably in harmony with His Divine Nature and eternal purpose for His salvation to reveal Himself in some out of the ordinary place and in some unforeseen way.

Let me give you a few examples; He appeared as I Am to Moses in a burning bush in the middle of the desert. Then while He was here on earth He appeared Himself to a woman of disgusting character at Jacob's well to be the long anticipated Messiah. Another time He revealed only a part of His radiating glory to three of His chosen disciples on the high mountain of Transfiguration. Remember when He showed Himself and His purpose to give the Gentiles the Gospel to Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus?

There are many other times that Jesus appeared to His people, but perhaps the most amazing exposure ever given to a human person was given to John. That was when our Savior presented Himself clothed in His majesty and power, positioned in the center of the seven churches. John could only write,

"...When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead...." -- Revelation 1: 17.

Wow! Christ decided to show Himself to His holy disciple who was sent away, banish, exiled. John on the lonely isle of Patmos; this wave-washed and wind-swept mound of crushed stones and shifting sands; had the awesome privilege to see and witness the reveled Word of God and wrote it down for us.

"...For the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ." -- Revelation 1:9.

Our Savior had selected this faithful man, before time, to be the human conduit through which His magnificent truth could be given to us, His believing people. It pleased our sacred Lord to show the inspirational truth about prayer in John's pictorial words, "...Golden vials full of odors..."

Evidently our Lord wants us to know that prayer is a part of worship. A prayer resembles the odors of sweet incense rising up in the air to God. Our heavenly Father is well pleased with our fervent prayers when we load them with the aroma of our heartfelt worship.

Tip! What really determines’ the effectiveness of our labor for Christ is the measure of our faith and the fervency of our prayers. If our faith is poor and our praying is indifferent; how can we expect to achieve much for Him?

Our Savior wants us to understand that our prayers are placed in golden vials or bottles in His Holy Place in heaven like the golden censer (the container for burning incense), and the ark of the covenant that is covered all around with gold, were it is held in the most Holy Place in the temple, the place of worship.

Have you not fully grasped this fact yet? The fact that as God's praying people, all of our sincere prayers are immortal. Yes that is true! And the Lord preserves these prayers like a sweet incense that He keeps in golden vials.

If Jesus breathed the power of His endless life into His prayers and His prayers are immortal because He is immortal. If Jesus' prayers will be answered because He is the answer to all prayer; then we unquestionably are aware that Christ's prayers are living petitions sealed, saved or waiting for us in His plan of eternal salvation.

Tip! It opens the door for salvations. (Act 2:42) “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers”.

All the prayers that are documented in Holy Scriptures are an everlasting piece of the Divine map of salvation. These requests or prayers were made immortal only by the power of the abiding Holy Spirit. Our indwelling Holy Spirit makes it possible for us, God's people, to pray with such longings that we do not know how to ask and cannot voice.

"And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God." -- Romans 8:27.

This amazing Scripture that Paul wrote under the inspiration of the same Holy Spirit that indwells us today simply says; every prayer authorized by the Holy Spirit becomes an essential and everlasting part of the total economy of God as is shown in the plan of salvation.

Tip! 1 Timothy 2:1. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,

Unless you are born again through the blood of Jesus Christ, the only prayer God will hear is your prayer asking God to forgive your sins. I can talk about prayer all day long and it will do you no good until you come face to face with your Savior Jesus Christ. He is the mediator between you and God the Father. The only way to God is through Jesus. Will you simply ask Him to forgive you? Ask Him to come into your heart and be Lord and Savior of your life, because you believe He died for your sins and in three days rose again so you can have life with Him for ever. God bless you and keep you until the day Jesus comes for us. Amen.

You Want More Things? Then Seek Jesus with All Your Heart

Tip! If we, God’s people expect to carry out the works of Christ that will glorify our Father, then we must believe in Him for the very work’s sake, and pray fervently in His Name.

Luke 11:10 says: "For every one that [asks receives]; and he that [seeks finds]; and to him that [knocks] it shall be opened."

Jesus Christ is the Door connecting the spiritual part and the physical part of us. When we are born again of the Holy Spirit through Jesus, we go through the Door into a spiritual kingdom, which is the spiritual part of us. This is where we live, move, and have our being in a spiritual realm with Christ. Of course we are in the world physically, but we can say that we are not of this world spiritually. God's holy Word pronounces that we as His people are like a tree. A tree lives in two places in this natural world; it lives in the ground, and it lives above the soil. Paul documented this marvelous truth when he wrote,

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." — Colossians 3:2.

Our Lord similarly revealed a wonderful truth concerning the door when He said, "...And shall go in and out, and find pasture." It is clear that a saved person can go in and out, from one realm to another to find spiritual food or the Bread of Life. Jesus has made a sufficient supply to sustain us, His people, both in this physical realm and the spiritual realm. He cares greatly for His people in this natural world as well as in the spiritual kingdom. Our Savior wants us to be acquainted with our Good Shepherd, and know that He will care for His flock while we are out in the field; the same as He cares for us when we are in the fold. In other words, our Savior will protect us while we labor and witness for Him on this earth, just like He will safeguard us when we are resting securely in the knowledge of His love. Because is it not written?

Tip! So when we ask Christ to carry out His works in our hearts we are fervently praying that our Father may be glorified in His Son.

"The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." -- Psalms 121:8.

Our everlasting Savior, Jesus Christ has spoken with total authority pertaining to the open door.

"...Behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name." — Rev. 3:8

"...To him that knocks it shall be opened."

It will remain open to all eternity.

It is Jesus' will for us to open His Word, the Holy Bible, to find the answers to our prayers. I can personally say that our Lord speaks to His children more through His Word then by any other way. It has been my experience to daily hear God while I am studying His Word and praying. Do not separate the two, because you can not have one without the other. Our Father loves to hear us pray His Words back to Him. He enjoys hearing His people pray and claim His promises in our prayers. How can we give Him pleasure if we seldom or ever open His Word or when we pray we ask only for our selfish needs? Remember what Jesus said?

Tip! 1 Timothy 2:1. Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." - Matthew 6:33

You want more things? Then seek Jesus with all your heart; then and only then will "…all these things shall be added unto you!"

Is there Anything more Easy to Understand in Life than Knocking at a Door?

Tip! Let us always be aware of the fact that the power that is achieved to do the greater works that are required for Christ, is only gained through fervent prayer and faith in Jesus Christ.

Luke 11:10 says: For every one that [asks receives]; and he that [seeks finds]; and to him that [knocks] it shall be opened.

What did Jesus mean when He said, "...To him that knocks it shall be opened." I believe He was trying to demonstrate to us that it is possible for us as His praying people to enter into the heavenly place where He is seated on the throne as mediator. This is where He presents our petitions to God our Father. This truth is verified by Paul, who wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,

"…Seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God." -- Colossians 3:1.

Jesus described this wonderful truth in His Word when He said, "I am the door..," John 10:7, and again in verse 9 of this same chapter. We can come in through the door, to His presence and pray before Him in the same effortless way that we can go into another room in our home, through an open door. Once we realize this incredible truth, we will discover that it is possible to bring other people, like our friends, families and people we work with, into His presence and talk with Him concerning their needs.

I have taken others into the presence of Jesus many times, and it has been my joyful pleasure. When I saw the truth of this promise, I entered into an agreement of prayer with Christ. It did not happen over night, but by building a relationship with Jesus in prayer, I can honestly say, I do not find it difficult to enter into His presence at anytime, day or night.

The Holy Spirit motivated prophet clearly saw this great truth about Christ when he said,

"...He shall be for a glorious throne to his Father's house." -- Isaiah 22:23.

Is there anything more easy and understandable in life than knocking at a door? Of course not even a little child can knock at a door. But if we have failed to grab the meaning of Christ's simple teachings concerning prayer when He said, "...To him that knocks it shall be opened," please ask Him to open Himself to you. We who are God's children have a magnificent throne in our Father's house. We have every right to come boldly to this wonderful throne of grace to make our requests known unto our heavenly Father. We had nothing to do with this; it is all because of what Jesus did for us; that is why God's everlasting truth will shine with a new light if we will only knock at His door in prayer.
