How can the Church of Christ Today Deal with the Ominous Threat of Worldliness without Prayer?

Tip! So it is the same elsewhere in the Holy Bible (James 1:5) we have “asking” put into view as a prayer: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraiding [scolding somebody] not, and it shall be given him.

"...When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they [spoke] the word of God with boldness." -- Acts 4:31.

Of course there are many things that threaten us today. We are threatened with severe turmoil that cannot be overcome unless we keep our strength fresh by way of prevailing prayer. We cannot hope to break away from the deluge of evil which threatens to overpower us, as believers of today, unless we are constantly replenished and re-invigorated by the Holy Spirit. Even though it is written, "...They were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the word of God with boldness." Every day we need a gracious refill of the Spirit of God. This is the only answer for our spiritual struggles in this time we live in. Our Lord's holy prophet Isaiah said,

"...When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him." -- Isaiah 59:19

Notice that Isaiah said, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that "when" not if "the enemy shall come" and not maybe come; there is no doubt the enemy will come or has already arrived. So is there no hope to escape this flood of evil that threatens to overwhelm us as believers today? Not unless, of course we are daily being filled and refreshed by the Holy Spirit thought the reading of His Word and prevailing prayer.

When Paul said, "...Be filled with the Spirit," he was emphasizing the need for an ongoing daily request in prayer for the fullness of the Spirit in order to achieve the victory for Christ on this earth. This significant filling with the Spirit was clearly different in some respects from the very significant filling received on the day of Pentecost. This gracious giving of the Holy Spirit was evidently one of the times of refreshing that is to be expected when the presence of the Lord comes on us as a result of answered prayer. (Acts 3:19)

Tip! Let us always be aware of the fact that the power that is achieved to do the greater works that are required for Christ, is only gained through fervent prayer and faith in Jesus Christ.

The church of Christ today cannot deal with the ominous threat of worldliness, unless the company of believers prays for power to meet the dangerous threat. We, the company of believers cannot survive the rebellious teachings of modern Liberalism except we pray for strength to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints of old. If we as the believers in God's church today do not have our spiritual strength fill up constantly day by day, by the Holy Spirit, we will not be able to triumph over the growing power of spiritual wickedness threatening us today.

Tip! THE possibilities of prayer are gauged by faith in God's ability to do. Faith is the one prime condition by which God works.

How are we to rise above in opposition to the creeping paralyses that are the result of worthless programs and pointless plays promoted by the worldly-minded leaders in the church? It will require much prayer and unless we, the company of believers today, are ready with the power of the Holy Spirit we will not be able to handle the crisis that is confronting us in this day of ritual and unbelief.

Tip! What really determines’ the effectiveness of our labor for Christ is the measure of our faith and the fervency of our prayers. If our faith is poor and our praying is indifferent; how can we expect to achieve much for Him?

It is interesting to note that the company of believers did not ask the Lord to change the attitude of their enemies. God did not give in to their emotional prayer in the hour of crisis by extraordinarily changing the attitude of the determined opponents. God could have, but He did not remove the threat that endangered them; He did not even destroy the ring-leaders responsible for the persecution of the church. They, the small company of believers accepted the fact that such persecution had been prophesied and predicted in God's Word.

"...Thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ." -- Acts 4:25. (Psalm 2:1-3)

The Lord wants us to understand that suffering and persecution for His Name sake, is the price to be paid in blood and tears for the great pleasure of serving Him in a holy way in this life on earth.
